Holy Anger
Anger is a natural human phenomenon which arises when you
perceive you are been treated unjustly, abused or irritated.
Last week Sunday’s Methodist fellowship dwelt on anger, we
were admonished that although anger is a human phenomenon, it is easier to fall
into sin when angry i.e. through curses, violent reactions and malice towards
our supposed enemy. The fellowship manual encourages us to be ‘ANGRY BUT SIN
NOT’. Why?, apart for keeping us in right standing with God, it will help in our
Social and Healthy Living.
Socially: the person we are angry with may not even know it,
and ‘laying out our cards’ will hasten the ‘mending of fences’.
Health wise: the vitriol caused by anger makes the blood
boil which is dangerous for the overall health of the body.
That been said, there was an aspect which didn’t get much
explanation. This is HOLY ANGER.
In Luke 19:45 Jesus was angry at the traders in the temple that
he drove them out of the temple.
Studying Jesus’ actions and feelings
·
Coming into the city Jerusalem, he was sad that
the city missed its opportunity
·
He saw the people abusing the use of the temple –
his father’s house.
This two human feeling brought about the feeling of anger we
witnessed. How did Jesus deal with his anger?
i)
He drove out the traders and cleaned the temple
ii)
He started teaching in the temple daily.
Nature abhors a vacuum, if HE (Jesus) had just drove them
out and went away, the traders would have returned and even heavily fortify
themselves. I believe we should take cue from Jesus, if you have or see any
negative behavior in either your life or the society chase it away and replace
such with a Godly attitude daily. That is HOLY ANGER.
